the Volunteeers' adventures in Salento

After Jesus and I (Eugenio) have finished in the workshop making our bikes with the great help of two guys from Africa and Andrei’s boss of ciclofficina, we became more mobile in moving around the city. Now we use our cool bikes to visit friends or language tandems.

While it was warm, every weekend we and our friend, mentor Eugenio Mazzotta, went out of town to explore the places of Salento. And the places are beautiful! You have a chance to go whether to the Adriatic Sea, whether the Ionic. In one of the first trips, we visited the southernmost point of mainland Italy - Leuca. We hit a very good time. There was a concert where classical music and Balkan music were contrasted. It was interesting. After the concert we decided not to return home, but to spend the night in tents in one of the olive groves. When we arrived at this remote from civilization place, we were frightened in the dark by the eyes of a wild animal. Having shone a lantern, we’ve realized that it was a fox =))

In the morning we didn’t wake up with singing of birds, but with gun shots. At first we thought that it was the owner who defended his private property from uninvited guests, but everything turned out to be much more interesting. These were the hunters who shot the birds. In general, we decided to go away from there as soon as possible.

In fact, in Salento a lot of historical places and events associated with them. There are so many that I want to be at all at once. But it’s impossible. You have to choose. One fine sunny day we chose a walking tour around Guagnano. We saw how several centuries ago olive oil was made, ancient caves with frescoes and unusually huge stones for these places. Well, this is just a small part of how we spend our free time. Leave comments and see you soon.
