Hola! прывітанне! We are Jesús from Spain and Eugene from Belarus! The new volcanic volunteers for the project "Speak it, play it!" with VulcanicaMente. We will stay one year in Lecce and here you will find our adventures as volunteers. Stay tuned... One month has already passed since we arrived, and it seems like it has been an entire season. We arrived in the evening of Monday 3rd September around 9 pm almost simultaneously, Eugene arrived by train from Bari after flying directly from Vilnius, Jesus instead had arrived from Salerno after having taken a vacation in the Cilento mountains. As soon as we arrived in the new house, a surprise awaited us ... pizza! After leaving our things in our new rooms, we went with Hanna, Sara and our roommate Pietro to the pizzeria Vicè, one of the best in Lecce. The day after the arrival, on Tuesday, after a morning of rest after the long journey and the pizza of the night before, we went to the office and then to a cycling event with the Ciclofficina Popolare from Manifatture Knos, a fantastic cultural center with a huge space, in which they organise many interesting activities, concerts, cinema, exhibitions, parties, various different courses (circus, theater, dances, folk dances, climbing ...), a farmer's market with local and organic products and the Ciclofficina Poppolare, a place where you can fix and build the bikes yourself, starting from scratch, with the help of volunteers work. On the occasion of this excursion, that was part of a larger international event on the inclusion, we walked through the streets of Lecce listening to explanations given by our talented guides Miriam and Vittorio. During the following days in the first week, we went between the different offices to have a first contact with the world-renowned italian bureaucracy. tax code, phone card and bank account, from the first and second we came out victorious, but still in the fifth week of evs we are still fighting for the bank account. On the last day of the week, Sara explained to us what the Erasmus + program is and how the Volcanic association was born: how Sara and other girls in 2012 returned home after several years and experiences abroad and not knowing very well what to do they decided to do something to be able to continue to live these experiences of exchange and travel opportunities and to be able to offer them to other young people here in Salento. This is how Vulcanicamente started.
It seems that social life, cultural events and things to do never end in Lecce; during the first week of the project we had the opportunity to do many things: Monday pizza, Tuesday bike ride, Wednesday concert of Persian music, Thursday meeting at Masseria Ospitale for the occasion of the Irregular Festival and our first experience of hitchhiking of the EVS to go to the sea, Friday concert of Indian music, Saturday a spontaneous theatrical performance on Salento culture and Sunday visit to the castle of Lecce.
