For Christmas we gathered most of the lonely people in Salento and organized a lovely dinnerparty at our house. This year we had a super international Christmas: Hungary, Estonia, Slovakia, Turkey, Ukraine, Lithuania, South-Africa & Italy. All family together! Photo was taken after failing multiple times
We thought that staying in Lecce for Christmas will be the hardest part of our EVS experience. We were afraid we are going to stay alone, with no Christmas feeling and no family. But we were SO WRONG. We had amazingly warm Christmas with a big and lovely family. |
On the second day, the reason why we actually went to Rome, we attended the EVS 20th anniversary event. I (T.) didn’t have breakfast, because I don’t understand how people eat a chocolate crossaint for breakfast and be happy with it. So I was starving during the event. Also, since we had been in Italy only 2 weeks, our level of Italian was not enough to understand what was going on. But, the phrase that every volunteer knows in any language, is the free food buffet. It was great! On the third day in Rome we were on the bus to Lecce. In the beginning of the trip we thought that we will not survive the whole night trying to sleep in that bus. But in the end of the trip we thought: never again! But probably we will spend more time in that bus very soon, because it’s cheap. |
Inglecce
2 weeks ago we started with an English speaking club called INGLECCE (inglese+lecce, clever, huh?). Every week we create an environment for the locals and also for the foreigners living here to speak English. We have had 2 meetings so far and they both went great. We use non-formal education and the build-up of the night is similar to a youth exchange. First we started with a crazy (totally crazy) energizer, that actually to our big surprise worked very well to get the people going. We arranged a very warm environment for the activities, meaning that the people needed to move a lot. So it got hot. And ofcourse you cannot do anything without food in Italy so we made pasta and pizza for aperitive.
We could hear the positive result of the night during the aperitive time - although the activities had finished, everybody was still speaking only English to eachother, also without having a non-italian in the group.
